2 MOONS OF AUGUST NIGHT HIKES

Every few years there occurs an astronomical phenomenon where two full moons occur in the same month. The second of the full moons is called a Blue Moon. On these night hikes, we will hike at a casual pace as the golden hour becomes the blue hour and the blue hour becomes night. Registration Deadline: July 27 and August 28, 2023

CANOE BASICS CLASSES

Raymond Williams, ACA Certified instructor, will lead the adventures at Woody Lake, located at the Franklin County Parks & Recreation Department on Sontag Road. Come develop confidence tracking, prying and using your j-stroke in this beginner flatwater canoe class. Expect to be in the canoe for about 1.5 hours. No experience is necessary. All equipment is provided. Please bring water and snacks. Registration Deadline: One Week Before Class

CANOEING AT PHILPOTT LAKE

Paddle the beautiful shoreline at Philpott Lake as an American Canoe Association Certified instructor helps you develop your navigation skills. All equipment is provided. Registration Deadline: Monday, May 8, 2023

DISC GOLF FOR FAMILIES

Are you looking for an affordable activity and an opportunity to get outside? Disc golf is the answer! For less than $25 you can get the whole family playing. This program is designed to educate and empower families with the knowledge to have a successful and fun round of play. Come learn the basics of disc golf from PDGA Masters Professionals and discuss considerations that will allow you to maximize your game. Registration Deadline: Wednesday, August 16, 2023

Reduce the effects of aging on the mind and body by participating in this low impact, low cost sport. During the sessions you will learn the basics of disc golf from PDGA Masters Professionals and discuss considerations that will allow you to maximize your game. STATE FARM BIKE RODEO & MOVIE

Join Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Bicycle Patrol unit and Parks & Recreation for an unforgettable evening at Waid Park. Learn safety tips and practice bike skills. All bicyclists will receive a custom printed water bottle. This event is for kids of any age or ability. Stick around for Movies on the Move with a showing of Minons, The Rise of Gru, beginning at dusk. Concessions and outdoor games will be available before the movie. 

WEDNESDAY WALKS AT WAID

Hike all 16 miles of trail at Waid Park during this 4 week program. Trails range in difficulty from easy to challenging. Registration Deadline: Wednesday, May 31, 2023

YOUTH CROSS COUNTRY MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE

The Franklin County Mountain Bike Club will host their second free youth bike race on May 27th at 9:30am at Waid Park. This free event is open to all youth ages 15 and under. This timed race will have a start/finish gate, and the course will be fully marked. Finisher prizes will be issued to all participants in this non-competitive race.
