What's the deal with trophies, banquets and pictures?: These things are great, but we do not require that our coaches do them. If they decide to do these things, we ask that they consult with parents on costs, if any are involved.

1. Are there any scholarships for youth sports?: Yes. Any participant that receives Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits qualifies for a discount when registering for youth team sports. Participants will pay $7 instead of $15. To take advantage of this, parents need to bring in a letter of benefits and photo ID.

2. I registered my child to play a sport. What do I do now?: A coach will contact you directly. We typically have a coaches meeting about two weeks after the registration deadline and this is when coaches receive rosters and sign up for practice times. The coach will contact you based on the phone numbers and/or email that you provided on the registration.

3. My child misses the cutoff by 2 days and they want to move up to the next league, but the web site won't allow me to register for that league. Is that allowed?: You can move a child up in most leagues (there are exceptions for baseball) if the child is within one year of moving to that age group. You can register online for the age group that your child falls into by age and in the notes section, request to move them to the next league. Please make careful consideration when moving a child up. Make sure that you are making the decision in the child's best interest and not solely based on what is convenient.

4. My child wants to play tee ball, he won't be 4 until May 3. Can I still sign him up?: No. A child has to make the age cut off to register for a sport, no exceptions.

5. What is the criteria for participating in a recreation sports team in Franklin County?: The criteria for participating is that the child must live and/or attend school in Franklin County.

6. My child can't decide. Can she play soccer and tee ball?: No. Participants can only choose one team sport per season.

7. I want to coach my daughter's team. What do I do?

Each season when registration opens we begin taking requests for interested coaches. We contact coaches from the previous season. That coach, if he/she is in good standing, has the first option to return.

Finding Coaches

If he/she doesn't want to return and the assistant coach wants to take the team, then he/she could take the team. We do not contact assistant coaches, they must contact our office about coaching. If neither the head or assistant wants to coach the team, we go to the list of interested coaches in the order that we were contacted.

8. I want to sponsor my sons team. What do I do?: When the coach calls you, let them know that you are interested!

10. Do we have to buy uniforms?: Teams typically find a sponsor to cover the cost of uniforms. Parents may be asked to contribute to the cost if the sponsor does not cover the entire cost. Teams may provide t-shirts, then ask players to wear black basketball shorts or gray baseball pants, etc. Coaches are asked to consult parents prior to purchasing items that they will need to pay for.
