The Parks, Recreation and Aging Services Department strives to deliver high-quality programs and services to our citizens, fostering connections that strengthen our community and offering programs that enhance the vibrancy of our county. To measure the department’s performance at serving our community, metrics are reviewed each year. As you will see, there is much to celebrate. Visits to our parks, recreation center, and picnic shelters have increased, and more people are participating in youth sports, senior programs, community events, and outdoor activities. Overall, we are pleased to report a significant increase in the number of residents and visitors served this year.
Here are some key achievements:
Park Visits: Waid Park, SML Community Park, and the Recreation Park welcomed nearly 426,141 visitors, marking a 6% increase from the previous year.
Recreation Center Attendance: The Essig Recreation Center saw a 15% rise in visits, with 46,839 people taking advantage of its offerings.
Shelter Rentals: There was a notable 24% increase in shelter reservations, totaling 499 for the year.
Community Recreation Participation: 11,152 individuals engaged in community recreation activities, representing a 35% growth from the prior year.
Senior Programs: The department served 13,883 seniors, an impressive 72% increase.
Volunteer Coaching: The number of volunteer coaches grew by 19%, with 738 positions filled.
Youth Sports Participation: A total of 3,844 young athletes participated in 14 team sports, up by 11%.
Game Attendance: There was a 13% rise in the number of games played, with 1,465 games held last year.
Outdoor Recreation: Nearly 2,935 people attended outdoor recreation activities, reflecting a 44% increase.
These achievements underscore the department's commitment to enhancing the vibrancy of the community and the dedication of the volunteers, coaches, and sponsors who made it possible. The continued support from the Board of Supervisors and Advisory Commission Members has been instrumental in these successes.
